We went to life group this week, think of it as couples bible study before Church service where they are wrapping up the book of James1 in Chapter 5.
“Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh2 as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.”
James 5:1-6 KJV
We talked through what it means to be rich, and it is not in material, but in spirit. There is nothing wrong with having material and wealth, it is all about where your mind is at and acting moral, especially in business dealings.
Anchors
This was one of those moments where God was speaking to me again, huge emphasis in the service on Anchors. That was the pastor’s core message, God is our anchor. Clancy and I were beaming back and forth as anchors are a big symbol in our life, I mean I work for AnchorWatch… just incredible how God continues to speak to me.
- Anchors are early Christian symbols.
- Fear is the great debilitator of the soul.
- Fear = “what if?”
- Faith = “even if”
Focus
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Isaiah 41:10 KJV
Gods promise
- I am with you
- I will strengthen you
- I will help you
I am with you
“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, And thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; Even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; But the night shineth as the day: The darkness and the light are both alike to thee.”
Psalm 139:7-12 KJV
I will strengthen you
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 KJV
God blesses risk takers
God will help you
I will uphold you
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.”
John 10:27-30 KJV
You could say it was an incredible Sunday oh hearing the Good Word.
- The past month God has continued to point me to the book of James. It has been at least three times now. Every time I read it, something new is revealed. Here is the post which references the book of James ↩︎
- Is this God telling me to quit biting my nails, I believe so. ↩︎
